Description
Traffic was horrible with the snowstorm the night prior and I had time to spare so I called my mother on my drive into work. I told her how I felt like my life wasn't like I hoped it to be. She did what all mothers do and put me at ease. We chatted briefly while I turned the corner and saw the most brilliant light I had ever seen.
A slight head turn to the right and my breath was taken away by the sight before me. All of a sudden, all my worries faded and excitement filled my heart. An opportunity to take an amazing photo....
I'm in!
Sundogs are commonly made by the refraction of light from plate-shaped hexagonal ice crystals in high and cold cirrus clouds or, during very cold weather, these ice crystals are called diamond dust, and drift in the air at low levels. These crystals act as prisms, bending the light rays passing through them with a minimum deflection of 22. If the crystals are randomly oriented, a complete ring around the sun is seen a halo.
